Designed by Cini Boeri, the Botolo is a multipurpose chair - use it for dining, lounge, and most importantly, a place to think and be creative. Available in a variety of fabrics, leather, and even a shaggy fur for those with wilder taste.
"I like elements which are hybrid rather than ‘pure,’ compromising rather than ‘clear,’ distorted rather than ‘straightforward’ . . . I am for messy vitality over obvious unity . . . I am for richness of meaning rather than clarity of meaning.” ~ Robert Venturi
Last week, Haute Living featured pieces conceived and crafted using a reduction approach in order to achieve design clarity. This week, we focus on design with BIG personality. The late architect, author and educator Robert Venturi, who coined the phrase and title of our mailing, was a ardent objector to the "Less is More" modernist axiom.
With its musical form and sculptural silhouette, the Grand Piano Sofa by Gubi is designed for socialization. The timeless style features two armrests slightly set back, encouraging eye contact and private conversations.
Initially introduced back in 1938, the Little Petra Chair is one of just a few designs by architect Viggo Boesen. The lounge chair, produced by &Tradition, has elements of funkis style, which is distinguished by a softer and more organic aesthetic that challenged the minimalistic approach of Bauhaus.
Designed for Missana by Marc Venot, the Quetzal Armchair surprises, attracts, and traps. The design was inspired by the South American Quetzal bird, and can change the color of its feathers in the blink of an eye, thanks to 14 overlapped bicolor pillows.
The focal point of the Célia Sideboard by Miniforms is the doors, which are screen-printed with a design inspired by the Art Deco movement of the 1920s. It reminds us how much pattern can enrich an environment, especially when contrasted with different materials.
The shape of the Octopus Table by Arflex is reminiscent of the sea creature who shares its name. It seems to be an improvised table, where the thin legs of the base, apparently posed in a casual way, oppose themselves to the rigor of the round plate.
The Something Like This Sofa is a celebration of designer Maarten Baas's love for sketchy drawings, translated into a soft, unusually modeled sofa for Moooi.
Thoughtful design meets technical expertise in these designs by Moooi Carpets, created using a revolutionary printing concept. Vulture, Fool's Paradise, and Dreamstatic look just as stunning hung on the wall as they do laid on the floor.
The Dear Ingo Hanging Lamp from Moooi features a highly customizable set of arms that spider out from the base. The object combines material with aesthetic play, straddling the line between abstract and the functional.
