CH 402 BEAM CHAIR by CARL HANSEN & SON
Description: A minimalistic upholstered easy chair with a warm glow. Handmade on a beech wood frame; the legs and boomerang-shaped sides are of stainless steel. The chair is from the same series as the "CH438" dining chair, and the sofas in the "CH 400" range.
The chair is a welcome addition to any room and is also known under the name "The Airport Chair" or "The Kastrup Chair," as it was originally designed specially for use in Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup.
The chair is available in a variety of configurations, ranging from a single seat to a bench composition. Every option provides a sleek appearance and great comfort. The individual seats are fixed to a cylindrical stainless steel beam. The flat, stainless steel sidepieces complement the legs, giving it a clean and dynamic profile, as well as hiding any upholstery seams.
Wegner is considered one of the world's most outstanding furniture designers. He was one of the motive forces behind the Danish Modern movement, which did much to change people's view of furniture in the 1950's and 60's.
Wegner developed his first design at the age of 17 as an apprentice to a carpenter. At the age of 20, he studied at the institution now known as The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design. In 1940, he initiated a joint project with Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller, and in 1943 he opened his own design studio.
His designs retain relevance today, and his sense of details is a source of constant wonder. Among Wegner's recognitions are the Lunning Prize and International Design Awards. His works are exhibited at major international museums, including the MoMA in New York and Die Neue Sammlung in Munich.
Finishes: Available in a variety of fabrics or leather. Frame available in beech.
