CH 33 CHAIR by CARL HANSEN & SON
Description: A modern dining chair that offers great comfort and stability, "CH 33" is a classic chair that appears contemporary despite clear design references to the simple lines of the 50s and 60s. The chair's upholstery is available in both fabric and leather. You can also choose to mix and match the woods used with the back and frame.
The chair was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1957 and produced for 10 consecutive years before being taken out of production. In 2012, Carl Hansen reintroduced the chair. It expresses many typical aspects of Wegner's best design: CH 33 is light and graceful, and works as a dining chair, office chair, or as a sculptural addition to almost any room.
Ever part of the chair employs rounded, organic forms. The tapered legs and cross pieces are thickest where they need to support load-bearing joints, and gracefully become more slender as the design allows.
Wegner is considered one of the world's most outstanding furniture designers. He was one of the motive forces behind the Danish Modern movement, which did much to change people's view of furniture in the 1950's and 60's.
Wegner developed his first design at the age of 17 as an apprentice to a carpenter. At the age of 20, he studied at the institution now known as The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Design. In 1940, he initiated a joint project with Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller, and in 1943 he opened his own design studio.
His designs retain relevance today, and his sense of details is a source of constant wonder. Among Wegner's recognitions are the Lunning Prize and International Design Awards. His works are exhibited at major international museums, including the MoMA in New York and Die Neue Sammlung in Munich.
