Designs in the Scandinavian Style
A movement rooted in simplicity, minimalism, and functionality, Scandinavian design has developed a household presence in its countries of origin and beyond. Popular since the 1950s, the style makes use of form-pressed wood, plastics, aluminum and pressed steel. Explore some of our favorite classic and contemporary Scandinavian designs, now available at Haute Living.
EMBRACE CHAIR BY CARL HANSEN & SON
Elegant and expressive, the Embrace chair fuses a wooden structure with soft upholstery. The oak or walnut frame is composed of three pieces, assembled using classic finger joints to emphasize the simplistic sophistication of its craft.
In addition to the standard dining chair, Embrace is also offered as a deeper, lower-sitting lounge chair.
LIUKU PENDANT DROP BY MATER DESIGN
Finnish designer Maija Puoskari brings us a contemporary pendant in Liuku, which is as versatile as it is beautiful. The lamp consists of a colored, mouth-blown glass shade nestled over an alder base in two shapes. The glass may be specified in clear, smoke, gradient violet, or dark blue.
Alternatively, Liuki may be used with just the wooden base for a clean, minimal look. Though available in a variety of configurations, Liuki is designed as a cohesive collection that is stunning when hung in clusters or as a single statement piece.
TOWARD SOFA BY ERIK JORGENSEN
The design of the Toward sofa emerged by combining the uses of an armchair, chaise lounge, and tete-a-tete. Toward features a unique base with a built-in mattress and a back rest in different sizes. The sofa's cushions are loose and may be interchanged to allow a versatile function and appearance.
Toward is available in five color combinations including light grey, dark grey, brown, pink and dark blue with capped feet in solid brass or aluminum. Each individual color combination consists of 6 different color nuances and textures from Kvadrat Textiles.
ANOTHER RUG BY &TRADITION
Manufacturer &tradition unites Nordic tradition with contemporary design, of which the Another Rug is no exception. The rug is created using the ancient Kilim technique, used to produce tapestry-woven rugs from the Middle and Far East. Traditional means unite with contemporary design and a bold color palette to lend interest to its interior.
Another may be sourced in Yellow Amber, Red Volcano, Green Jade, or Blue Thunder in three different sizes.
STICK SYSTEM BY MENU
The Stick system was designed to meet the needs of the young generations. It can be extended and adapted to any space it inhabits, as well as moved around freely. The Stick system is available in eight variants in black, white or grey, as well as custom configurations.
GRASSHOPPER FLOOR LAMP BY GUBI
The Gräshoppa (Grasshopper) floor lamp was one of the most iconic products produced by design legend Greta Grossman. Her work was influenced by European Modernism and worked to define the aesthetic of mid-century California Modernism.
Grasshopper was first produced in 1947 and features a tubular steel tripod stand with adjustable aluminum arm and conical shade. The lamp is designed to allow the user to direct light without creating a glare. In addition to a floor lamp, Grasshopper is also available as a table lamp or pendant in a variety of colors.
COPENHAGEN PENDANT BY &TRADITION
Elegant and poetic, but with an undeniably industrial aesthetic, the Copenhagen pendant in an exercise in contrasts. It combines the classic and modern with the maritime and industrial into one versatile piece. Available in three sizes, Copenhagen is available in black, white, and a variety of colors depending on the fixture's size.
SYNNES DINING CHAIR BY MENU
The design outlook for creating the Synnes chair is well in-line with the Scandinavian aesthetic: less is more. Simple in design but with an undeniably intriguing nature, the Synnes chair by Falke Svatun came to life with the revelation of inserting a sheet of plywood into the seat, along with a curved backrest.
Synnes is available in natural oak, black ash, or dark ash. It may be sourced with or without a seat covering in wool or leather "silk".
RO CHAIR BY FRITZ HANSEN
The Republic of Fritz Hansen collaborated with world-renowned Spanish designer Jaime Hayon to create the easy chair of tomorrow. The Ro chair is an escape from the everyday bustle of life and adds a minimal whimsy to its interior. Ro can be configured with a up to two different textiles: one for the seat's shell and one for the cushions. A complementing footstool may also be requested, with matching oak or brushed aluminum legs.
FOURWAYS PAPER CARPET BY WOODNOTES
Simple and striking, the Fourways carpet brings vibrant geometric design to the modern interior. In addition to a number of pre-selected color combinations, Fourways may be personalized to match an individual's preference or individual character. Finish the carpet with wide edging or sewn edges and optional backing.
Fourways features a tight weave that is fire-resistant and its paper yarn makeup is antistatic, easy to clean, and hypoallergenic. Size is completely customizable, with a maximum width of 98.5" and a length of 197".
